About IDP

     The University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot (UHSB) located in Karnataka is one of the most premiere institutes in the horticultural sector. The university was established on November 2008, to impart quality education, conduct research of national and international standards and to disseminate technologies through extension activities to the stakeholders. In the educational front, the university has produced many graduates and postgraduate students who are serving presently in various public/ private sectors in India and abroad.
     A little more than a decade old UHSB is recognized in academic excellence both at national and international levels. The university is looking after state’s horticulture sector in 25 districts with its 9 constituent colleges of horticulture located in Bagalkot, Bidar, Belgavi, Uttara Kannada, Koppal, Kolar, Bengaluru, Mysuru and Haveri districts. The jurisdiction of the university includes all the agro-climatic zones of the state and hence possesses very good opportunities for entrepreneurship developments on a wide range of horticultural crops.

National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP)
     NAHEP has been formulated by ICAR with a total cost of US$ 165 million (Rupees 1100 crores at the exchange rate of Rs. 66.75 = 1US$) for five years starting from 2017-18. The project is proposed on 50:50 cost sharing basis between the World Bank and the Government of India, implemented at the Education Division, ICAR, New Delhi. Overall, the project aims to develop resources and mechanism for supporting infrastructure, faculty and student advancement, and providing means for better governance and management of agricultural universities, so that a holistic model can be developed to raise the standard of current agricultural education system that provides more jobs and is entrepreneurship oriented and on par with the global agriculture education standards.

Institutional Development Plan (IDP)
     IDP is one of the major components of NAHEP, through which it provides institutional development grants to selected participating agricultural universities. The IDPs would seek to improve learning outcomes, bring competency among graduates, improves faculty teaching performance and research effectiveness. This will result in uplifting university reputation through the IDPs, the AUs would identify and prioritize key challenges, propose interventions to respond to these challenges, and set timelines and indicators for measuring achievement of greater quality and relevance attributed to these interventions. The participating AUs, through the IDPs, would also seek to foster both technical and financial partnerships.

     The IDP project sanctioned to UHS Bagalkot is worth of Rs.781.25 lakh, out of which 657.32 lakh (80 %) funding is from NAHEP and 156.25 lakh (20 %) is from the Government of Karnataka for a period of two years, 2021-22 and 2022-23. The project is entitled “Innovative Pedagogical Designs to Augment Entrepreneurial Competency and Employability". This project will attempt to strengthen human resource capabilities by exposing students and faculty to the reputed national and international agriculture and allied institutes in the form of trainings and collaborative research programs. The crucial component of the project is to provide skill enhancement and entrepreneurship development trainings for graduating students, which help in igniting young minds to take up the challenges in establishing entrepreneurship new business ideas among students and enable them to develop financially viable and feasible projects. The academic ambience will be improved by establishing an e - studio, language laboratory etc. The young faculty will be deputed for international institutions to acquire the skills to develop entrepreneurship among the students. International collaborations will be made for the research and development as well as to have student sandwich programme and visiting professorships. The alumni, as ambassadors of the university, will also play a greater role in developing linkages, partnerships and infuse innovative ideas in terms of agri-ventures. The project also involves the development of vocational courses such as application of drone technology hi-structure, modern technology in landscaping etc. to meet the demands in hi-tech agriculture/horticulture farming system. The Followings are the major objectives of the IDP for UHS, Bagalkot.


  1. To ignite entrepreneurial motivation, cognition, attitude and enhancing competency and multitasking skills among students.
  2. To foster feasible business models through relevant ambience, capacity building, industry exposures and providing start-up platforms.
  3. To establish an enabling entrepreneurial ecosystem through networking among business professionals, alumni and industrial experts for vibrant and sustainable development.
